What Makes Someone an International Architect??

According to Wikipidea:
“An Architect is a person trained in the planning, design and oversight of the construction of buildings, and is licensed to practice architecture. To practice architecture means to offer or render services in connection with the design and construction of a building, or group of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings, that have as their principal purpose human occupancy or use.
Architecture is both the process and product of planning, designing and constructing space that reflects functional, social, and aesthetic considerations. It requires the manipulation and coordination of material, technology, light, and shadow. Architecture also encompasses the pragmatic aspects of realizing designed spaces, such as project planning, cost estimating and construction administration. A wider definition may comprise all design activity from the macro-level (urban design, landscape architecture) to the micro-level (construction details and furniture).
Architectural works are often perceived as cultural and political symbols and as works of art. Historical civilizations are often identified with their surviving architectural achievements.”

So I believe that I fit the tittle of registered and licensed Architect.
What then makes me an International Architect?
Is it as simple as the fact that I have practiced architecture outside of the United States?
Or is it that I have practiced Architecture in more than one country?
Or is it that I grew up in a different country and have travelled the world and therefore when I am called to create space, realize a particular idea or project, that I carry with me cultural, social and political symbols so inbreed that I cannot help but express those ideas in my work?
For now, I believe that it is not only my awareness of different cultures and civilizations or the acceptance that each place in the world holds their own language of expression what makes me an International Architect.
Being an International Architect is realizing projects in different parts of the world. It is of great significance to speak their language, understand their culture, their climates, their soil, their social and political struggles and conditions. It is valuable to relate well to all the other team members involved in creating the project and to understand their ways, their processes, and their constraints. And even though I truly believe that bringing different ideas or innovative ways of doing things helps us all grow, it is of immeasurable value to fit.
Maybe an International Architect is one who knows how to plan and design space, and one who realizes projects in different parts of the world. In my opinion, a successful International Architect is one who is able to bring new ideas and methods to a foreign land and leave behind a product that fits and blends with its environment.

As someone who lives in Palmetto Bay Plantation, Roatan Honduras. I can definitely say I’ve seen many of Ana Gallo’s home designs completed. Each one is unique, original and spectacular. So since she lives in Austin Texas and does a lot of projects in Roatan Honduras…. I would say that qualifies her as an International Architect in my book.
